Holiday Dresses

It’s almost New Year’s, and you’ve got parties to go to. Now it's time to find a dressy holiday look: one that will work for most black tie, cocktail, business formal and formal holiday parties. Usually the event invitation will clue you into the formality of the event, whether it's casual or black tie. But sometimes even that will cause confusion (short dress or long?) In general, the later in the day the event (after 6 p.m.), the dressier. Long dresses are usually reserved only for formal (black tie) occasions.
You could just wear a little black dress (classy, flattering and slenderizing), but why not explore some of the other dressy options? Red, bold prints, even gold are dramatic enough for evening wear. Choose from silks, brocades, organza, velvet and other luxurious fabrics. Look through magazines and catalogs for inspiration. Can’t find the perfect look? Now’s the time to call me for a consultation to put your ideas together and create the dress you want.

Having a Thanksgiving Wedding?

by Deb Carpenito, WeddingPhotoUSA

Here are some ideas for your Thanksgiving theme!

All of your family and friends are in town for Thanksgiving weekend....spending time with them and eating delicious food, what a wonderful combination. Why not make it even more special and add in a celebration of marriage!

Make sure to send save the date cards as soon as you know since it is a holiday. Off white or ivory invitations embossed with pressed autumn leaves are a beautiful touch, you can also use acorns, fall flowers, or seasonal fruit.

Carve out pumpkins and put votive candles inside, or use leaf or pumpkin shaped floating candles in a bowl placed on a autumn decorated plate, or lay out seasonal fruits sprayed with a golden sparkle on gold plates with votive candles randomly placed ontop.

Use cornucopias with fall flowers or seasonal fruits, pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks throughout the room.

Autumn colors: Rust, Burgundy, Brown, Tan, Gold, …

The Importance of Alterations

When you buy a dress off the rack, alterations should always be a part of your dress budget.  The majority of wedding gowns and formal wear are fitted gowns; meaning that a manufactured dress is made to fit a set of measurements, usually not completely your own, but you buy the closest set of measurements to yours.  While back in the '80s wedding gowns were made to be altered with large open seam allowances, these days you will get a well made gown that is not.

Over the last twenty three years, I've seen these changes and have altered hundreds of gowns.  All types of hems, bodices, bustles, and other sizing issues.  Fittings are few and it's service at your door.  The average alterations take the initial fitting plus the final try on and delivery.  Wedding gown alterations can average between $150 - $350 depending on what needs to be done.  Bridesmaids should budget between $80 - $100 on an average alterations ticket.

It's important to have all your undergarments and…

I've also got resources for slips and bras, making it easy to get everything you need for that perfect look.  Have a custom veil and headp…

Custom wedding gowns start at $1300 for labor plus fabrics and embellishments and take 4-6 months.  Need a dress in a rush?  A wedding dress can take as little as six weeks if my schedule allows.  At your consultation be prepared to express yourself with sketches and/or magazine photos and I'll bring fabric swatches and expert guidence to help you design the wedding gown you've been wanting.  Plan on four fittings plus a final try on at delivery.

Custom Bridesmaids

Having a hard time finding that perfect color for your bridesmaids dress?  How about a style everyone's happy with?  Trying to match a junior bridesmaid and flowergirl dress?
Custom bridesmaids start at $250 for labor plus your choice of fabrics.  I carry many different types of fabrics, both silk and synthetic, in an array of popular colors.  When you order a custom dress all fittings are included to give your gown a perfect fit.
While tradition suggests bridesmaids wear matching dresses, added sophistication can be given by giving your maids a little definition with coordinating colors and individual style.
Have an out of state bridesmaid?  No problem.  I'll make it as close to her measurements as possible and ship it to her where she can have it altered at her convenience.  Thinking of having your out of town bridesmaid hire a seamstress in her area?  The big problem with that is even though they have a piece of the same fabric all the other dresses are made off, different…
